Nick Efstratis is a managing director at EPIC Ventures and has been a venture capitalist investing in seed and early-stage technology companies since 1999. Along with the other managing directors of EPIC, he concurrently is an officer of Zion’s Bank SBIC Venture Fund. Prior to EPIC Ventures, Nick held numerous positions at Wasatch Venture Fund, including associate, partner and managing director. He was also an officer of MACC Private Equities, a publicly traded investment management company.
Nick began his career in real estate investment management at Marcus & Millichap in Palo Alto about the time that Netscape completed its initial public offering. Quickly catching the start-up bug, Nick joined the team that successfully sold SoftSolutions to Novell in 1994 and helped launch NetDocuments, a software start-up delivering “hosted” document management services. NetDocuments was a pioneer in the Software as a Service (SaaS) arena. The Company was later funded by Wasatch Venture Fund and remains a stellar Wasatch / EPIC portfolio company.
Nick and his wife Kristyn are the parents of three children. Together, along with Kristyn’s family, they are the founders and operators of RanchLife Adventures, a working cattle and guest ranch located in Montana. He has a B.S. in entrepreneurship with a minor in accounting/economics from Brigham Young University. His M.B.A. is from the Marriott School at BYU.
Notable exits that Nick has worked on at EPIC include The Generations Network (sold to Spectrum Equity and later IPO), Berkeley Data Systems, a.k.a., Mozy (sold to EMC) and Advanced Software (sold to Embarcadero Technologies). His current portfolio includes many market leading companies, including Alliance Health Networks (health social networks), HyTrust (virtualization compliance, security and management), Tricipher (on-demand identity management), Medsphere Systems (electronic health records), Bungee Labs (platform-as-a-service), The Generations Network (geneology and family history data and services) and SmileReminder (doctor / patient communications services).
